The Australian Football League (AFL) continues to promote its Preferred Facility Guidelines to inform the planning, design, and development of community sports venues. Since 2017, the governing body reports an investment of over $117 million in partnership with local, state, and federal governments to support nearly 3,000 venue improvements across its grassroots network. These infrastructure upgrades are primarily designed to ensure facilities remain welcoming, inclusive, and gender-friendly for all participants. Facility managers, planners, and local councils are advised to consult these guidelines during the early planning stages to ensure the appropriate provision of playing surfaces and amenities that meet current standard requirements.
